NaCSBA Takes Action on Your First Home Scheme

NaCSBA is making sure custom and self build has a seat at the table.

We have written directly to Rt Hon Angela Rayner MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, to call for genuine custom build homes – and, where practicable, individual self builders – to be included in the Government’s new Your First Home equity-loan scheme.

With the scheme’s detailed eligibility criteria still being developed, we believe now is the time to make sure custom and self build is considered from the outset, rather than being unintentionally excluded.

In our letter, we have highlighted the opportunity for the scheme to support custom build homes supplied by participating developers, as well as asking the Government to consider how the scheme could work with serviced plots, staged custom-build models and smaller specialist developers. We have also offered NaCSBA’s expertise to help shape an approach that works for government, lenders, developers and purchasers.

This is exactly the kind of proactive representation our members can expect from NaCSBA. We will continue to make the case for custom and self build wherever government policy and initiatives could affect the sector. We’ll keep members updated as this develops.
