Self build terraces in the Netherlands

On the 18-19 April the Right to Build Task Force is leading a guided study visit to custom and self build projects in the Netherlands for professionals working in the sector.

And until 23 December NaCSBA members can take advantage of an earlybird ticket for the special price of £75pp, which includes the guided tour of completed projects and a three-course evening meal (flights and accommodation are not included in the ticket and must be purchased independently).

The tour is led by Hans Sparreboom, founder of Steenvlinder which builds custom and self build homes in the Netherlands and England, with Task Force members on hand too.

The tour will take in a range of examples and models in Amsterdam and The Hague, including detached and terraced homes, retrofitted buildings sold as shell homes, cohousing apartment blocks and a self build neighbourhood with a relaxed design scheme.

Seeing built-out projects first hand, supported by local insight on policy and delivery, is an essential opportunity to understand how custom and self build housing can be supported in the UK. This includes finding out how policy translates to practice and how sites are promoted, both within local government during planning and to the wider public upon sale.

Reasons to attend:

  • Benefit from the experiences of a mature custom and self build housing market
  • Discover examples of best practice to facilitate delivery
  • Gain insight into a range of delivery routes
  • Network with like- minded professionals

The study visit has been curated by the Task Force to be of interest to a wider range of housing and planning professionals. This includes:

  • Local politicians and councillors
  • Local authority housing, planning, regeneration, development and estates officers
  • Mortgage lenders and building societies
  • Developers, housebuilders and housing associations
  • Established community housing groups
  • Landowners
  • Planning consultants
