London Older Lesbian Cohousing

London Older Lesbian Cohousing (LOLC) is working to bring on a community of 20-25 homes with shared living spaces in Waltham Forest. The group aims to create homes that will create an alternative older living model that offers inclusivity and mutual support.

Currently the group is developing a plan to progress their ambition, and source land.

Bath Street Collective Custom Build

Architect John Kinsley’s Bath Street collective Custom Build has reached completion, with all residents now in occupation. The project saw four families create a series of customised flats in a new build, that echoes the tradition of the Edinburgh tenement building.

 

Home Farm Village

Home Farm Village, Ely, is a pilot co-operative housing project that created 41
new leasehold homes, the first such project in Wales.

The Cadwyn Housing Association helped to develop and build the project, and homes are jointly managed by the association and the co-operative’s members.

Kipling Garages

Community led organisation, Leathermarket CBS, has submitted plans to Southwark Council for 27 high quality, genuinely affordable homes in Kipling Garages, Bermondsey.

igloo Regeneration has been appointed as Development Manager for the project. Once approved, the new homes should be ready by Spring 2018.

Sussex Street Cohousing

Currently meeting with housing associations and potential developers to bring on the scheme. In addition, the group is working with Instinctively Green consultancy, which has a track record of working with cohousing groups.

Status at Nov 2015

Sussex Street Cohousing is working toward creating 17 custom-build flats with shared communal facilities on a development just north of Norwich city centre. As well as a major focus on a community ethos, sustainability is top of the agenda in order to give reduced running costs, even if this requires a slightly more expensive build.

Loftus Village Association

Loftus Village Association created 19 new homes for a co-operative housing scheme, with homes offering affordability through intermediate rent. The scheme was developed wiht Charter Housing, now part of the Pobl group, on the former Pirelli factory site at East Newport, Wales

With 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-bed homes, tenants can progress to ownership, and the site is democratically managed by the residents.

Somerleyton Road

Community housing group, Brixton Green, has received planning permission for its Somerleyton Road development. In conjunction with Lambeth Council and igloo Regeneration, the project will deliver over 300 new homes, as well as a purpose built theatre, cultural, creative and community facilities to Brixton, East London.

Lambeth Council approved the project and agreed to develop the site, in partnership with the community, after 5 years of lobbying. 40% of the homes will have genuine low cost rents and 50% of all the homes will be Affordable Homes, as defined by the government.

Lowfield Green, YorSpace

YorSpace is a community homes group in York working to bring on 19 community homes in Lowfield Green, York for community self build housing set around a common house and shared growing spaces.

The one acre site, part of an old school redevelopment, has been allocated for self build by the council, with around three quarters of the site potentially allocated to YorSpace for 19 homes, with six additional plots for self-build homes.

The council is due to make a decision shortly on the site with regards to planning.

Water Lilies

A Bright Green Futures development of 24 self-built or self-finished homes in with a shared garden and natural swimming pond, on the outskirts of Bristol, with underground parking.

Ty Ryan

Ty Ryan is a mix of 16 one- and two-bedroom apartments being built in Wrexham’s Western Gateway. Williams Homes and the Community Self Build Agency are working together with First Choice Housing Association on the scheme that offers training and living opportunities for ex veterans, who will be involved with building the homes.
