Self build celebrities Kevin McCloud and Charlie Luxton, along with Graven Hill’s Karen Curtin, drew in a strong crowd of over 250 visitors at Grand Designs Live to listen a discussion on the barriers that self builders face in the UK.
The session was led by NaCSBA’s Jon Sawyer who kicked things off by discussing the Right to Build and the growing numbers of custom build communities in the UK.
Jon’s presentation was followed by a speech by Kevin McCloud, who focused on the lack of land and finance available to self builders. He surprised the audience by discussing how he wrote to the six big finance providers in England to ask why they don’t provide self build mortgages – and he didn’t get a single response.
