Homebuilding & Renovating show

The first Homebuilding & Renovating Show 2019 received over 50% more visitors than anticipated, helping to allay Brexit jitters about a property slow down in the self build sector. While the Farnborough show represents a regional snapshot, the figures are a welcome piece of news in a market dogged by warnings of faltering performance as the UK prepares to leave the European Union.

Taking place 18-20 January, the event saw 9,700 visitor go through the gates, with an average project spend of £154,0834 per person. The figures point to self build’s resilience to withstand the vagaries of the wider market, with over 75 per cent of visitors having a live project underway within the next 12 months.

The south east has traditionally been a strong base for the sector, as relatively wealthy homeowners go on to self build their dream properties, often using existing property wealth to finance projects.

Analysis showed that 15% of the visitors were trade, reflecting an appetite for information about skills and products that goes beyond consumers to the wider sector.

Nick Noble, commercial & events director at Future PLC, says: ‘We engaged with a new discerning audience who welcomed the Homebuilding & Renovating Show to the South East region for the first time. It left people inspired, motivated and excited to forge ahead with their building plans, giving us great scope for future shows within the region. We’re committed to constantly evolving and improving consumers’ experience even further.’
