Join the Right to Build Task Force for a Masterclass for councils and professionals working on, or supporting, the creation of local plans, in connection with custom and self build policy and practice.
The Self and Custom Build Local Plans Masterclass takes place on Thursday 17 June 9.30-11am, online, and is FREE for local authority employees (with a gov.uk email) or just £30.
About the training
Delivered by the Government-funded Right to Build Task Force, the Masterclass has been designed to provide pointers and examples in relation to how best to ensure plans are sound in relation to self and custom build. As well as being essential for councils currently preparing Local Plans, consultants providing Council support services will also find the training useful to ensure advice and evidence will withstand challenge.
Since 2012 the NPPF has carried a requirement to plan for people wishing to commission their own homes. Councils began including policies in sound local plans from 2013 – predating the Right to Build Legislation.
With Councils needing to meet the statutory requirement to provide opportunities for self and custom build, Local Plan examinations increasingly focus on issues of planning for delivery. Officers are now seeing local plan representations from a range of sources in relation to self and custom build and Inspector’s Main Matters, Issues and Questions.
