NaCSBA extends a warm welcome to Peter Johns as he takes up the position of Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Andrew Baddeley-Chappell, who stays on as Policy Director.
A NaCSBA Board member since 2016, Peter was the publisher of SelfBuild & Design magazine, which he launched in 1997. During this time he developed the SelfBuild & Design brand to include successful self build shows, and also PlotBrowser.com, giving him significant traction at the sharp end of custom and self build.
SelfBuild & Design and PlotBrowser have recently been acquired by Castle Media, publishers of Build It and organisers of Build It Live and the Build It Awards.
Peter says, “It is an honour and privilege to take up this role. NaCSBA has achieved so much in making self and custom build part of the mainstream in UK housing and planning policy. This is particularly as the result of the tireless efforts of former Chairman Michael Holmes and Andrew Baddeley-Chappell as CEO (and many other Board members giving up their time voluntarily).
“As a result, NaCSBA is entering a new phase of its development and I am delighted to accept this position to focus on growing the commercial role of NaCSBA and supporting its members, while continuing to work alongside Andrew in his new role as Policy Director.”
NaCSBA Chair Mark Stevenson says, “Peter brings with him considerable experience of the sector and an intimate knowledge of our diverse membership and the strategies needed to support them in their growth plans.
“The fact that Peter has been a board member for some six years and has also been Chair of the Right to Build Task Force means he is best placed to take on the role of CEO and build on the fantastic progress Andrew has already delivered on behalf of our members.”
NaCSBA is extremely pleased to retain the services of Andrew Baddeley-Chappell, whose tenure as CEO saw the organisation grow from strength-to-strength, as he championed policy and oversaw daily operations. Andrew fulfilled this brief brilliantly, forging strong ties in government and industry and transforming numerous NaCSBA policy ambitions into reality.
We sincerely thank him for all his work, which has helped NaCSBA develop its trusted relationship with government over the last four years.
Andrew says, “I have hugely enjoyed my time in the role – made all the better by our members and those in the wider sector who I have worked with. Together we have worked to achieve genuine positive change in how we do housing, giving more people more choice in their home.
“Highlights for me have included the publication of The Bacon Review, the launch of Help to Build, and The NaCSBA Custom & Self Build Market Report, and I look forward to building on this legacy in my new role.”
