On 28th May 2025, Government released their plans to “Get Britain Building” their proposals include streamlining the planning process and easing Biodiversity Net Gain requirements on smaller sites – up to nine units. Consultation for the white paper is open for eight weeks.

Peter Johns, Chief Executive Officer, NaCSBA has responded to the proposals;

“NaCSBA welcomes the government proposals announced today to support SME housebuilders through simpler rules and faster decision-making processes. We have long argued for changes to the planning system with our members identifying planning as the biggest constraint to the growth of custom and self build. Although the proposals do not specifically refer to our sector most custom and self build is delivered by SME housebuilders so this, together with the recently announced proposals to speed up large site build-out and tenure diversity, can only be good news – perhaps especially for custom build developers and enablers”
