Rural Urban Synthesis Society (RUSS) is looking for a construction manager to take on the role of Self-Build Manager at its Church Grove project, in Lewisham London, with applicants invited to apply by midday on 2 September 2022.
The site is a community-led and affordable self build housing development, where local community members have had input into the homes that they will ultimately be living in, with planning permission granted by Lewisham Council in 2018.
The scheme is on track to delivering 36 new sustainable, customised homes, with the vision that residents would be able to have input into the major decisions that will frame their living environment. Residents were involved in a series of co-design sessions with the architects and its self-build facilitator, Jon Broome.
About the role
The Self-Build Manager will supervise and manage the self-build works at the site in Ladywell, South East London, with these works including the fit-out from shell of four apartments, the laundry room and guest apartment, together with the external soft landscaping. The expectation is the role will be full time from September/October 2022 through to June 2023.
The remaining 32 apartments are being completed by the Main Contractor ROOFF, and Self-Build Manager will work closely with residents and ROOFF whilst also liaising with RUSS’s Project Board, consultants and working groups.
Work involves providing knowledge and expertise to resident self-builders prior to working starting on site, and the supervision of the self-build works in the context of the main build activity. The self builders will be supported by a team of volunteers, a part-time Client Representative for the project and the Church Grove Project Board.
