NaCSBA has co-ordinated – facilitated through Richard Bacon and the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Self-Build, Custom-Build and Independent Housebuilding – a really important invitation-only summit for council leaders next Wednesday (9th December) at No.10 Downing Street. Here they will be encouraged to become champions of self build.
Based on the research that NaCSBA’s R&D team has been doing abroad and in the UK, we can see that councils that have political leaders supporting self build make a much bigger impact than those that do not. And so we want ALL council leaders to pick up the baton and run with it.
More than 30 council leaders will be attending – these have been carefully invited because they are the ones that can make the biggest initial impact. The Housing Minister Brandon Lewis, broadcaster Kevin McCloud and NaCSBA Chair Michael Holmes will also be attending alongside Richard Bacon who will chair the event. Lord Porter, chair of the Local Government Association will also be speaking on the day.
This event brings the twelve-month Nationwide Research & Development (R&D) Programme to a close and will also see the R&D Custom and Self Build Toolkit launched. This Toolkit is aimed at councils, housing association, small builders and community groups and it breaks down the different challenges they face and offers solutions – from developing land opportunities to organising a serviced plot.
